About Us

Welcome!

The Beecher Island Sunday School traces its roots back to 1911 when a group of around twenty people gathered in the sod home of Frank Reeck on the prairie near Beecher Island, Colorado for worship services. Later, meetings were held in a nearby sod school house and eventually gathered in the Beecher auditorium during the summer months and the one-room Beecher school house during the winter. The classes were curtained off in the school with some age groups meeting in the cars outside.

In 1933 the Sunday School was reorganized and has continued to faithfully meet through the present time as a nondenominational, Christ centered, Bible based fellowship.

By 1950 over 50 people were using the crowded facilities and decided to erect a new chapel building which was completed and dedicated April 16, 1950. In October of 1950 the official organizational meeting of the Beecher Island Sunday School was held and a charter was signed and recorded in the Yuma County Courthouse. Also in 1952 a Constitution and By-Laws were adopted and in 1994 the Tenants Of Faith were adopted and became part of the By-Laws. The Tenants Of Faith were amended in January of 2014.

Again by 1980 with structural and crowding issues with the chapel building, it was decided to build a new church building, which was completed and dedicated in 1981 and continues to serve us well today.

Kids

We love kids and many Sundays the number of kids at our church outnumber the adults! If you are planning on bringing your children with you, we think that’s awesome. We have Sunday School classes for every age group and a nursery for mothers who would like some privacy while they watch a livestream of our services.

TENETS OF FAITH & DOCTRINE

What We Believe

Scripture

We believe, according to 2 Timothy 3:15-17, the Bible to be inspired by God and the only infallible and authoritative Word of God. We believe that the Bible is profitable for teaching; for reproof; for correction; for training in righteousness; and that, through the Scriptures, the believer receives wisdom that leads to salvation, through faith, which is in Christ Jesus.

God

We believe that there is one God, Creator of all things, eternally existent in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and recognized as the one true Godhead.

Jesus

We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His death through the shedding of blood on the cross, His burial, His bodily resurrection and ascension into Heaven and His personal return to earth, in power and glory.

Sin

We believe, according to Romans 3:23, that all men have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and that the sinful nature of man separates man from God, and unless man is saved, by receiving the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, he is eternally separated from the Godhead and condemned to the Lake of Fire (Rev. 19:20; Rev. 20:10-15). We further believe, that God, through grace, provided a way to save man from his sin and spend eternal life with Him. We believe that to be saved, one must be born again (John 3:3-7), believe in the Lord Jesus Christ (John 3:16), and confess with their mouth before men that Jesus Christ is Lord, and that there is no other way to have salvation but by receiving Jesus Christ in faith, as Lord, and not by human works (Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 10:8- 10; John 14:6).

Baptism

Though not essential for salvation or church membership, we believe the ordinance of Baptism should be observed, as commanded in the Scriptures, by all who have indeed repented and in their hearts have truly believed on Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. In so doing, they declare to the world that they have died with Jesus Christ and that they have also been raised with Him to walk in newness of life (Matt. 28:19; Acts 10:47; Romans 6:4).

Communion

God, by His Word and for His glory, freely created the world from nothing. He made people in His own image, as the crown of creation, that people might have fellowship with Him.

Marriage

We believe marriage is ordained by God and is the union between a natural born male and a natural born female (Gen. 2:24-25, 1 Cor. 7:1-3, Heb. 13:4) and is the only means of marriage consistent with biblical sexual morality. We further believe that any sexual practice outside of this teaching of God cannot be condoned, supported or practiced without committing sin and the consequential results (Rom. 1:18-32, 1 Cor. 6:9-20, Lev. 18:22-25, Lev. 20:13, Jude 1:7). To perform, condone or support such a union is outside the teaching of God’s word. This is a violation of the Beecher Island Sunday School’s religious beliefs and therefore such a union will not be recognized or performed by or at the Beecher Island Sunday School.

The Holy Spirit

We believe the spiritual unity of believers is in our Lord Jesus Christ and that He indwells in us through God the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 3:16; 2 Cor. 6:16).
